I pride myself as a foodie!
With that being said whenever I travel, I tend to eat more just because I want to try foods from different places. My most recent foodventure (get it?) took me to New Orleans, Louisiana.
I usually research my destinations before I travel and make an itinerary in advance. I took a different approach to New Orleans. For this food trip, I decided to take advice on restaurants to eat from locals.
I arrived at the hostel called the Quisby and I told the hostel staff the purpose of my visit to New Orleans. The staff was nice enough to go out of their way to make me a comprehensive list of places to eat, and also told me how to get to each restaurant. I did some research after they gave me their list and decided to add some places I would like to check out.
I made a comprehensive list of restaurants from the advice I got from the staff and my research. Here is a list of places I visited and what I ate:
Café Beignet and Café Du Monde
What is a visit to New Orleans without a Beignet? A Beignet is a french doughnut. It is square and covered with powdered sugar.
The two most famous spots for Beignets in New Orleans are Café Beignet and Café Du Monde. Beignets are so delicious and I ate 9 on the trip because I kept going back for more (no judgement please!). If you visit New Orleans, I advice visiting both Cafes for a taste of the delicious Beignets.

Golden Chips is a restaurant owned by a family from Guatemala.They are originally from Italy, but the family settled in Guatemala permanently. They have a branch in Guatemala managed by the owner’s cousin and another branch in New Orleans managed by the owner.
What did I love about this place? Their food is prepared fresh- they don’t serve chicken nuggets or fries from the freezer!

Coop’s is a popular restaurant in French Quarter. They have a variety of meals and I was able to try a plate that had a mix of their most popular dishes. It was yummy!!!!

Verti Marte is a convenience store mixed with a deli. Their deli offers delicious sandwiches, and to go dishes. You can buy a sandwich or simply order a plate for dinner because this deli has a variety of dishes.
The tastiest roast beef sandwich I have ever had hands down!
To satisfy your sweet tooth, go to Sucre.
Sucre offers delicious deserts and treats with the traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras color theme (Purple, Green and Gold).

Slice Pizzeria is quite popular in New Orleans and I was glad that I made time to stop by. The staff was friendly and they recommended a local beer to me which I loved.
Best time to go?
During happy hour from 3pm-6pm M-F

Turkey and The Wolf
Turkey and the wolf is quite different from anywhere I have been.
They have the same menu daily but since they are closed on Tuesdays, they have a pop up menu.
What do I mean? Their restaurant has a different menu every Tuesday. I visited on a Tuesday co-incidentally, and the item that stood out was goat meat and coconut rice. It was spicy and delicious.

Shaya is a middle eastern restaurant. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the food was delicious. I was advised to get their avocado and fish toast and I was very impressed. The starter was fresh pita bread which they make in house. You can see the oven where the pita is baked as you walk into the restaurant.

Dry Dock Café
Dry dock is a popular and old café in Algiers point. I took a ferry from NOLA mainland to Algiers point for $2 each way in order to get to Dry Dock. The atmosphere was vintage and that’s not surprising since it opened in 1989. They call themselves one of the best eateries in Algiers Point and they did not disappoint my taste buds.

Jax brewhouse was built in 1891. The brewry is no longer functional, but the bistro serves local beer and food. I went in for a cold cup of beer and to also take in the atmosphere of the vintage environment in this old brewry.

Can I say yummy? Cajun Seafood was recommended to me by my friend of mine from Chicago. She said my foodventure to NOLA wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t eat at Cajun Seafood.
She was right!
I absolutely enjoyed the Crab and Shrimp. The seafood is left in seasoned broth to maintain flavor till an order is placed. Cajun seafood was definitely a great way to end my trip to New Orleans.
